Town of Blacksburg Fall Recreation ProgramsRegistration is now underway for this fall's wide range of recreation programs and classes conducted by the Town of Blacksburg. See The Recreator Catalog for details on everything from bellydancing to dodgeball. Virginia Tech Homecoming ParadeThe annual VT Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 at 9am. The parade route runs from the Old Blacksburg Middle School to Alumni Mall on the Virginia Tech Campus. The entire community is invited- see the VT Homecoming Website for more information. Southern Mountain Square DanceThe New River Old Time Music and Dance Association will hold the first community square dance of the fall season on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 8-11pm. The caller will be Bill Wellington, and music will be provided by "The Virginia Creepers" at the YMCA Y-Center, 1000 North Main St., Blacksburg. University Bookstore Homecoming 5K and 1-Mile Fun RunVirginia Tech Recreational Sports will be hosting the University Bookstore Homecoming 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run on Sunday, Oct. 5, beginning and finishing at Margaret Beeks Elementary School in Blacksburg. The 1-Mile Fun Run will begin at noon and the 5K will begin at 1pm, rain or shine. This event is open to the entire community, but you must register online by noon on Oct. 2 to participate. Blacksburg Backyard BazaarUsed furniture and household items, vintage Steppin’ Out t-shirts, yard sale items and more, all at bargain prices. Click Your Way to Better HealthPsychologists in Virginia Tech's College of Science are seeking participants for a newly developed free Internet program that helps people make permanent lifestyle changes to improve their health. "Guide-to-Health" provides the skills, support and information people need to increase physical activity, eat more nutritiously, and prevent weight gain.
